I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about this regions rich landscape and geography, its history, its culture and day to day life. A highlight for me was visiting the ancient city in the second half of our day. We got to venture deep within its walls and take in its historied stories dating as far back as the Qing dynasty as well discover the local stores and merchants of today.

3.Xidi post office group——Paula Ferreira Loffler:I felt like I was in another time! As if ancient China was mixed with the modernity of today's China! 4.Stone carving group——João LucasMoutaAguiar:I see Looking China Project as a cultural exchange. It is my first time in China and the period that I’m here is changing my life forever. The people are really kind, nice and very polite. The food is perfect and the architecture is really different here, but it is also beautiful. I wish I could come back here more times. I’m in love with this country.

But it’s really fun to walk around with our international friends and our local producers. We shared a lot of fond memories and experiences.

6.Xidi ancient village group——Patrick Antonjuk:I was very grateful for the opportunity to visit two ancient heritage sites here in Anhui today with our Looking China group. The architecture of the Huizhou culture is extremely impressive, the white buildings with grey roofs, horsehead accents and stone floors are very distinctive and beautiful. The second place we visited had several bridges and calm waters which made the place even more scenic. Overall this trip was extremely insightful for me, because the architecture in Europe is completely different. Thank you, Looking China and all the organizers that made this cultural trip possible for us.

7.Hongcun scenery group——Diogo Manuel Martins da PalmaThis first day of cultural experiences in the ancient villages of Huizhou and Cheng Kan were very important to better understand the oldest customs and traditions of the Chinese people. I'm sure this first tour and journey will help us in the future of filming our films. Now I'm even more excited to finally start working on our projects.

8.Stinky mandarin fish group——Louisa Phung:Today was both wonderful and overwhelming. I think there was a lot packed into a very short amount of time. Marta is a great teacher with some very good words of wisdom. The second ancient town was gorgeous and it felt a little surreal being there. Everywhere I looked was amazing and beautiful.

9.Zhuo Wen's canteen group——ANNIKA VÄLJATAGA:A day full of touring around Huangshanmountains was a good way to experience China from a different perspective. TheHuizhou Ancient City was the first place for me to finally see the traditional historic buildings of China and the museum offered a modern overview of the place. After days of only seeing the bustling city life of Beijing and Wuhu, visiting the ancient village of Cheng Kan was a breath of fresh air. The calm atmosphere, welcoming people and historically rich streets made the place feel like a tranquilizing film. Nestled in the greenery of Huangshan mountains, the scenery was breathtaking. A place to take in not only with your eyes but also with your soul.

10.Hongcun humanities group——Alexandra Pärn:I feel so grateful for the wonderful experience I have had this far with the Looking China project. One of the best parts was our culture day, where we got to visit ancient towns and learn more about the rich heritage of the region.

Anhui is a special place, full of history and stunning scenery. Walking through the old streets of the ancient towns, I was amazed by the traditional buildings, busy markets, and friendly locals. Each corner we turned told a story of the past and gave us a glimpse into the unique culture of the area.

What made this day even more special was the bond we formed as a group. We shared laughs, explored together, and enjoyed the beauty of Anhui as one team. It showed me how travel can bring people closer, no matter where we come from or what language we speak.

image.png

The collision of different cultures makes the thinking shine like fireworks, and the lens becomes a window to convey feelings. Anhui trip officially started. Chinese and foreign youth will write various interesting stories in this collaboration. Let's witness it together in the coming days.
